Using images of remnant stands of ancient Eastern forests, naturalist Garry Plunkett will attempt to recreate a sense of the wilderness that the first European settlers experienced in the New World.
Garry has had a lifelong interest in trees and forests. Following his career in the U.S. Navy he has pursued a personal study of Eastern forests, with a particular interest in “old growth” systems. Garry completed the New England Wildflower Society’s Advanced Certificate program in field botany in 2003 and now teaches in that program. He co-chairs the Open Space Commission in Tiverton, RI and serves on the Board of Advisors of the Tiverton Land Trust, which together manage approximately 900 acres of forested habitat including Weetamoo Woods, Pardon Gray Preserve, and Fort Barton Woods.
